July 31
I visited with Dr. Sood today after my radiation appointment. He said I am doing well but reminded me of the difficult road ahead. I am very aware per his previous warnings and am going to ask that he cease and desist. I've got it. I know.
Did you know that when research is done on what types of psychotherapy works best there is a very interesting set of results? The two biggest factors explaining most of the variance (70% of it) in the success of therapy are the client him or herself (i.e., motivation, capacity for insight, etc.) and the bond that forms between the therapist and client. What your insurance company wants to know is which therapy is best (and shortest) for any given disorder. What we find is surprising. Only 15% of the variance is explained by the type of therapy. The remaining 15% is about the client's feelings hope and expectancy for a good outcome.
Why the psychobabble lesson? It's my long-winded way of saying that Dr. Sood needs to stop reminding me of the bad shit so I can continue to convince myself I'm doing well with the 15% hope and expectancy thing. Leave my happy delusion alone!
