July Update

July 21

Things have been a little crazy.

On Facebook I announced my desire to jog four consecutive 10k distances over a two week period before the fall semester starts. I started training but have had to abandon that goal.

July 2 – Mom, who lives in Thunder Bay, Ontario, finally got her hip replaced. My sister was there with her for that. I taught class from 9am to noon.

July 3 – Mom is released from hospital and is moving around really well at home. I drove to Thunder Bay (6.5 hours) and arrived at her house that afternoon.

July 4 – At about 4:30am, mom fell and broke her femur…yes, on the side with the new hip. The entire day was spent in the ER (horrible, inefficient, awful…story for another time). Mom finally admitted at 8pm. Lots of pain. 😭

July 5 – On the surgery schedule. However, surgery never happened. Lots of pain. 😭

July 6 – On the surgery schedule. By 4pm, all hope was lost but, magically, a porter arrived to take her for surgery. Doctor said it would be 2-2.5 hours. Well, it ended up being 4 hours of surgery because the femur was broken into “four or five pieces.” Recovery was nearly 3 hours. I finally left the hospital…

July 7 – …at 1am. Spent the day with mom. Lots of pain. 😭

July 8 – I drove back to Prior Lake.

July 9 – Taught class from 9am-noon.

Jul7 10 – Drove back to Canada. Mom transferred to rehab facility.

July 11 to 15 – In Thunder Bay. Left around 1pm to drive back to Prior Lake on the 15th

July 16 – Taught class from 9am to noon.

July 17 – day off with Halo (thank goodness...I needed that in a big way!)

July 18 – Drove back to Canada

July 19 to 22 – In Thunder Bay.

July 22 in the afternoon I will drive back to Prior Lake

July 23 – I will teach class

July 24 – Driving back to Thunder Bay.

July 25 to 27 – In Thunder Bay. Mom might go home on the 26th. Uncertain at this time.

July 27 – My bday

July 28 – Will drive back to Prior Lake. Will get scheduled third dose of HPV vaccine.

July 29 – Office hours in morning. Afternoon off.

July 30 – Teaching class and going to follow up appointment with cancer doc.

July 31 – Psychology Department all-day meeting.

Aug 1 – Will have lunch with my father to learn more about treatment for his cancer.

Aug 2 – Question mark – possibly back to Thunder Bay again.

(Aug 5 will be driving back to Prior Lake if I have to be in Canada again – class on August 6)
